Fare Types

Midwest Airlines offers a variety of coach and discounted coach fare types to meet your needs. If your travel plans require flexibility, a less-restricted refundable fare may work best for you. If your travel plans are less likely to change, you might take advantage of nonrefundable fare type. All tickets are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Please review the following list of fare types to determine which will work for you.

Change Fee

An administrative fee collected for changes made to eligible ticketed nonrefundable fare types. Midwest Airlines charges a $100 change fee per ticket when making travel changes to nonrefundable fare types (see also nonrefundable fares below). Canadian originating travel changes will be assessed a change fee of $100 plus the Canadian Goods and Services tax on the $100.

Confirmed Standby Option

Passengers may request a confirmed standby seat at any Midwest Airlines or Midwest Connect ticket counter or gate within three hours of the scheduled departure of the new flight. If seats are available, the passenger will receive a boarding pass and confirmed seat assignment on his or her desired flight upon payment of a $35 service fee per stop (plus any difference in government-imposed fees).

This option applies to all refundable and most nonrefundable tickets, as well as award tickets. Travel must depart from and arrive in the same cities earlier or later the same day as the original ticket, though intermediate stops may vary. We will continue to offer our existing standby option at no charge. Under that option, passengers may stand by for a flight earlier or later the same day, but are not guaranteed a seat will be available.

Fare Basis Code

A unique code used to identify a specific fare type.

Promotional Fares

Special discounted fare made available through use of a promotional code or certificate number.

Internet Fares

A special nonrefundable discounted fare that requires instant purchase and can only be purchased www.midwestairlines.com. Tickets are nonrefundable; a service charge and possible fare increase to a non-discounted fare type apply to reservation changes. These fares may not be used retroactively for any previously purchased ticket or in connection with or in exchange of any wholly or partially used ticket. No other discounts apply.

Refundable Fares

A fare that offers less restrictive rules and more flexibility in the event of changes. A refundable ticket if unused can be returned for a refund.

Nonrefundable Fares

  • Nonrefundable fare types may require that you purchase your ticket in advance. Seats at these fares are limited.
  • A minimum stay may be required on nonrefundable fare types.
  • Nonrefundable fare types are just that, nonrefundable. However, if you need to cancel your trip, your ticket remains valid for one year from the date of purchase. You may apply its value toward the purchase of another nonrefundable fare type. A $100 change fee applies, plus any difference in fares. If the new fare is less expensive than the original fare, you may apply that difference toward the change fee.
  • A $100 change fee will be charged for changes to nonrefundable tickets.
  • If you change your travel dates, the same nonrefundable fare type must be available for the new travel dates. If it is not and a higher-level nonrefundable fare type is available, you may pay the difference between the two fare levels, plus the change fee. If no seats are available at any nonrefundable fare types, you may purchase a new ticket at the lowest available fare for the new dates.
  • Some nonrefundable fare types permit standby travel for an earlier or later flight on the same day as listed on your ticket and between the same cities in markets where more than one flight option is available.
  • Back-to-back tickets are prohibited by Midwest Airlines under the terms and conditions of the ticket. Midwest Airlines has the legal right to not honor tickets and/or to issue a debit memo to the issuing agency. Passengers should be advised that such practices constitute violations of the tariffs under which Midwest Airlines sells its tickets. The tariffs are approved by the United States Department of Transportation and are published through the Airline Ticket Publishing Company. They form a contractual basis for the sales of our tickets. Specifically, the tariff states that a person using a Midwest Airlines ticket is entitled to transportation only via the routing designated and only when all the flight coupons are presented in the order in which they were issued.
  • Fare reductions are allowed. A transportation voucher will be issued for the entire fare difference on eligible fares within the first seven days of ticket purchase. Fare adjustments requested beyond seven days from the original date of purchase will be given via a transportation voucher less the $100 change fee. If the change fee is greater than the fare reduction no credit will be given. Fares governed by this rule may not be reduced to instant purchase internet-only fares.
  • Name changes are allowed on wholly unused tickets for a $100 fee. Requests must be made in writing and signed by the original traveler or purchaser. The letter along with photo ID must be presented at the airport on the day of travel. This policy does not apply to codeshare flights, bulk fare tickets or Web fare tickets.

Infant Fares

Midwest Airlines offers a 50% discount for infants under two years of age who are accompanied by an adult at least 15 years of age. The discount can be applied to any regular published fare but is not valid with any other discounts (i.e. senior, military /government, bereavement, student, companion, "free" promotional fares). There is a limit of one infant per adult. This program is in addition to the policy that allows infants under two to travel free in the lap of a paying adult. Infants traveling in a seat on Midwest Airlines must use an approved child restraint device appropriate for the child's weight. An FAA-approved car seat must be used if a ticket has been purchased for an infant. The car seat must have a label clearly stating that the device is approved for aircraft use. The seat must have a solid back that extends above the infant's/child's head, a solid seat and a seat belt/harness component that secures the infant/child into the child restraint device.
