Airport Info

Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha has evolved from its pioneer, railroad and meatpacking roots into a modern, vibrant city. The hub of Omaha’s new life lies along its expansive downtown riverfront at the Missouri River, where visitors enjoy museums, marinas, Lewis & Clark exhibits, riverboats, Italian gondolas, parks with fountain light shows, a boardwalk and so much more. Those in a nostalgic mood, who remember the 1930s movie with Spencer Tracy, might want to go across town to visit Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, which is now a National Historic Landmark.

Area Highlights

Restaurants:

By some historical accounts, the Reuben sandwich was invented in Omaha in the 1930s. You can still find a great Reuben there, but Omaha restaurants cook up far more exciting fare, including ethnic specialties. Check rewardsnetwork.com/Midwest for descriptions and price ranges for Omaha restaurants that also offer Midwest Miles rewards for dining.

The Arts:

Music, art and theatre are abundant in Omaha. The Joslyn Art Museum is Nebraska’s only fine arts museum, and is also recognized nationally as one of the 10 best art museums for children. El Museo Latino exhibits the works of local, national and international artists. A great zoo and a children’s museum add to the city’s expansive offerings.

Local Culture:

The Henry Doorly Zoo is a leader in animal conservation and research. Its exhibits include a jungle environment, desert dome, aquarium and a wildlife safari. Locals also visit Lauritzen Botanical Gardens, Freedom Park Navy Museum and Mountain Vernon Garden, a copy of George Washington’s Virginia garden. Romantics are fond of the gondolas in Heartland of America Park, complete with a stand-up gondolier.

Entertainment:

Located near the riverfront area is Old Market Omaha, a multi-block area of renovated brick warehouses, quaint storefronts, fine dining, shopping, hotels and upscale nightlife. It is the city’s premier arts and entertainment district complete with old-fashioned lamplights, uneven brick streets, horse-drawn carriages and street musicians. Just across the river in Council Bluffs, visitors can enjoy casinos, greyhound and thoroughbred racing.
