Restaurants:

The Arts:

The Des Moines Art Center is recognized by international art critics as a world-class museum with an important collection of contemporary art. The collection includes artists like Georgia O’Keefe, Henri Matisse, Rodin and Edwin Hopper. The Art Center’s three major buildings were designed by Eliel Saarinen, I.M. Pei and Richard Meier. Two of the buildings have been named in the National Historic Registry.

Local Culture:

Golf is a perennial favorite in Des Moines with a multitude of courses available. The city also is home to the Blank Park Zoo and Des Moines Botanical Center.

Entertainment:

Living History Farms, on the outskirts of Des Moines, takes visitors through five farms spanning five time periods and 300 years. The farms offer a wide range of participatory activities through the year, including sheep shearing, hay making, oat & wheat harvesting. The Living History Farms also host a Victorian wedding and funeral during the year. Many visitors also drive out to the Amana Colonies which feature seven authentic German villages that were originally founded as a religious commune in the 1850s.
