The Arts:

The Underground Railroad Quilt Code Museum in Underground Atlanta offers the history of handmade quilt messages that helped slaves escape the South. The Center for Puppetry Arts offers a museum, performances and workshops for both adults and children.

Local Culture:

Sweet Auburn, now part of the National Park Service, is an historic African-American neighborhood that was home to Martin Luther King, Jr. and is often referred to as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic District. It lies just south of downtown. Underground Atlanta offers history tours along 10 historic stops by guides in period garb.

Entertainment:

Buckhead, several miles north of downtown, is an upscale shopping, dining and evening entertainment area. Piedmont Park is the city’s major recreation area that includes theaters, art museums, the Atlanta Botanical Garden and musical venues. The park is home to Atlanta’s annual spring Jazz Festival.
