Midwest Airlines again named #1 in Zagat airline survey

Milwaukee, November 24, 2008 – The 2008 Zagat Airline Survey has rated Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines #1 in overall quality for mid-sized U.S. economy service. It is the seventh consecutive time the airline has been ranked #1, garnering the top spot in every U.S. airline survey conducted by Zagat since the inception of the survey.

The 2008 survey covers 17 domestic and 68 international airlines. It reflects the input of 9,950 frequent flyers and travel professionals who rate each airline for its comfort, food, service, Web site and timeliness. Each surveyor took an average of 16.3 flights per year, for a total of 162,000 annual trips; 62% were for business and 38% for leisure.

Midwest scored 22 on the Zagat 30-point scale, followed by Virgin America (21), Hawaiian Airlines (17), Alaska Airlines (16) and Frontier Airlines (15).

“It is an honor to again be named #1 in the prestigious Zagat Survey,” said Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer. “This award is truly a reflection of our employees’ commitment to providing a superior travel experience. Passengers know that our comfortable cabins and seating, onboard food, and outstanding customer service mean they will receive ‘The best care in the air’ when they fly with us.”

In September, Midwest topped the Business Travel Awards poll conducted by Condé Nast Traveler magazine, placing first in the single-class domestic airline category. The airline has been named best airline more than 50 times since 1990.
